N.C. Bioenergy Field Day Features in Local News

Bioenergy demonstrations in Wallace, North Carolina featured in the Sunday, October 2, 2014 edition of The Duplin Times. With a circulation of 14,000 subscribers, the Duplin Times is marketed as the “number one source for local news” catering to the local population of Duplin County.

Located in Eastern North Carolina, Duplin County has a population of 60,084 by 2013 U.S. Census estimates. Land area is 816.22 square miles, with 71.6 people per square mile. About 47% of the acreage in Duplin County is in agriculture, with 143,030 acres harvested cropland according to the 2007 North Carolina Census of Agriculture.

Reporter Jacqueline Hough wrote that more than 150 people attended, learning about fast-growing woody crops and grasses. State extension agents, legislators, researchers, and biofuels industry representatives took part in site demonstrations and tours including a biomass power facility and field trials.
