SEED Fellowship  

 

As a part of the IBSS project, the Southeast Energy Development (SEED) Fellowship has been created to train a capable, effective and safe workforce for biomass production, harvesting and biofuels processing. The SEED Fellows will work in a multidisciplinary team and will be assigned real-world problems that could include either research or field deployment challenges in feedstock production, feedstock logistics, conversion, or markets and distribution of biofuels. Five SEED fellows have been selected in 2015 cohort for 10-weeks program that started on May 25th and will end in July 31st. Two SEED fellows will be working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oak Ridge, TN, two will be working at Genera Energy, Vonore, TN and the fifth will be working at ForestConcepts, Auburn, WA. At the end of the 10-weeks program, the SEED Fellows will present their research at the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE) Annual Meeting. Below is a brief description of 2015 SEED Fellows:
  • Eric Vogt is junior in Biosystems Engineering from Auburn University. Eric will be working under the supervision of Dr. Erin Webb at ORNL. 
  • Emma Tobin is sophomore in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology from University of Tennessee Knoxville. Emma will be working under the supervision of Drs. Virginia Dale and Erin Webb at ORNL. 
  • Gage Brazzell is junior in Chemical Engineering from University of Tennessee Knoxville. Gage will be working under the direction of Dr. Sam Jackson at Genera Energy, Vonore, TN. 
  • Benjamin King is junior in Biosystems Engineering from Auburn University. Ben will be working under the supervision of Mr. Dave Lanning at ForestConcepts, Auburn, WA.
  • Brandon Johnson is junior in Sustainable Materials and Technology from North Carolina State University. He is an executive board member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Brandon will be working under the direction of Dr. Sam Jackson at Genera Energy, Vonore, TN. (MORE)
                                                                                         

SWITCHGRASS-III 

  

SWITCHGRASS-III - Prairie & Native Grass International Conference will be held in Knoxville, TN in Sept 30 - Oct 2, 2015. The conference will focus on switchgrass as a dominant species of the tallgrass prairie and savannah ecosystems as well as dedicated lignocellulosic bioenergy feedstock, but, the conference will also include other species of the tallgrass prairie (Andropogon, Sorghastrum, etc.).
